Don't Hold Back.

What are we waiting for? What do we keep putting our lives on hold for?
What an incredible run of natural disasters we've had so far this year!

It takes other people's tragedies to hit home the importance of appreciating life - what is important & what is not that important in the big picture.

It has made me take stock of how I am living my life. So that we don't hold back any longer and do make the most of our lives, I would like to share with you, a daily check list I have put together, to keep us on track and enjoy life in the NOW. I have shared many of these suggestions over the years in my personal dev. seminars.

We only have one life, so let's make the most of it!
  • Daily appreciation of the good in our lives, no matter how small, to feel more alive & attract less conflict into our life. To de-stress at the end of the day, write down 5 things that you are thankful for in your life. I find this very therapuetic when I have had a so-called 'bad' day. At first, I can't think of anything to be thankful for. But by focussing, always end up with some things to be thankful for which lifts my mood. This is a process that can help people recovering from natural disasters to stay resilient as they re-build their lives.
  • If you find yourself saying 'should' a lot, try changing it to 'could'.                   Should denotes - pressure, guilt, resentment, conformity, clutter.
  • Could denotes - choice, freedom, purpose, change, choices.                               This was a great tip for parents at parenting workshops to help with discipline.
  • What makes you feel happy & energised? Which people in your life make you feel good? What drains your energy? What can you do differently? What's the worst thing that could happen?  Replace 'should' with 'could' in your self-talk.
  • Don't sacrifice special family time by working longer to get more money. Learn to live with less. Balance needs V wants. How often have we heard that money does not buy happiness.
  • Let go of what is not adding to the quality of your life. Simplify and enjoy life's precious moments. These are the special memories you will treasure. A magic moment for me is always when I see a beautiful rainbow.
  • Get together with neighbours every so often. Have a family picnic during the week. Turn off the TV/computer and play cards or board games sometimes.  I read recently that 60% of people in Australian cities don't know their neighbours.
  • Don't wish it - just start doing it.  'One day' ..... may be too late.
So, let's not hold back any longer and start taking steps, to make the most of our life. Many of the victims of recent disasters, have said in media articles that their families, pets, friends & their health meant more than anything else.

"Whether you think you can, or think you can't, you are right." - Henry Ford.
